Kishman's IGA

The first person to own Kishman’s IGA was George Kishman. Before his father’s death in 2015 his son, Tom Kishman took over in 1989. Tom has since retired and his children Tom, Matt, and Kristin have taken over the business.

The IGA stands for Independent Grocers Alliance, and the store was first owned by J. Frank Grimes. Grimes was the creator of the original Independent Grocers Alliance. George was 32 when he bought the IGA Supermarket in 1936. He then renamed it to Kishman’s IGA and it stayed as that name through 1951.

The store was originally located at 226 N. Market Street and named IGA Supermarket. The store was then relocated to 202 E. High Street and reopened in 1954. Kishman’s IGA was relabeled as Hometown Food in 1990. Since then the store has been named Kishman’s Fresh Market IGA.

Kishman’s still sells fresh produce, snacks, drinks, condiments, canned goods, sweets/candies and other useful supplies. Kishman’s IGA continues to serve the Minerva community after 61 years of service.
