Garee-Scotts
The business was started by Mr. and Mrs. Garee with Mr. and Mrs. Scott on June 2, 1951. The Garee-Scotts business was located at 125 N. Market Street. Garee-Scotts sold clothing for men and women such as pants, dresses, swimming suits, jackets, shirts, and beach robes. The prices were very affordable. An example of this is in 1955 coat prices were $20-$90.
The owners did a lot of advertisements for different seasons and holidays in The Minerva Leader. The owners also went to New York to get clothing for their business. Mrs. Earl Mills was a long time employee.
In 1958, children playing with matches caused the Garee - Scotts building to catch fire. The owners of Garee-Scotts sold the business to go into retirement on October 1, 1988. The owners sold it to Sandra Jenkins who kept the Garee-Scotts business the same. She then closed the clothing store in 1990.
The building on N. Market St. is still standing and is now home to the Komodo Dragon Martial Arts and Nationwide Insurance.
