The Roxy
Located in downtown Minerva, The Roxy has a very large role in this small town’s history. The Roxy Theatre has been sold multiple times in the past and the name was often changed. It has been named The Dreamland Theatre, The Mohawk, and finally The Roxy. The theater was first built in 1936 originally named the Dreamland Theatre, until 1939 when it was changed to The Roxy. At that time, the building was expanded.
The theater was then closed for some time until it was bought by a group of local investors. The theater was again renamed as the Mohawk Theater in 1965. The Palmer family purchased the theater in 1972, renting it out over the course of their ownership into the mid-1980’s. The Roxy in Minerva was named as the Mohawk until it was sold to Berean Bible Church in 1986.

In 2020 The Roxy was remodeled entirely on donations of money and resources after being purchased by the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce. Some notable changes included the old chairs were red and the new are now blue. The chairs also have cup holders now and only had wooden armrests before they were replaced. The floors and walls have been refinished. Also, the movie screen and projector have been updated. Nonetheless, you can still find a classic popcorn machine in the lobby. This shows that the town of Minerva and people of the village want to see The Roxy open and thriving.
